3 Tips to Get Out of Your Funk

I don’t know what is going on these days, but I’ve been speaking with a lot of my clients and friends who have said they are feeling “Blah!” when it comes to their jobs, their relationships (or lack thereof), their finances, their family, and their health/fitness. I don’t what it is, but I wanted to share my 3 tips that have helped me and I’ve already heard back from a few who have said my tips have helped them.

In the video below, I break it down into the following:

  1. Get Clarity in what you want.  If you are unhappy, it’s important to know exactly you are unhappy about and what exactly you want to change.
  2. Get Organized and clear the clutter. When our life, house, minds, fridge, etc is packed with clutter, it can create more anxiety and stress about the current situation and it can prevent us from seeing opportunities and possibilities to change ourselves, our situation or our perspective.
  3. Get a Goal that you can use to focus your attention and energy.  Once you know what you want to change and you have created space for change to happen, you have to take action by moving forward in a positive direction.

Watch the video to get a bit more about these tips and to help you get on track to getting out of your funk!

3 (Non-Fitness) Books to help you lose weight

One of the biggest things that I like to implement into working with my clients, is ensuring that they have the mindset to help them stay focused and consistent with their health and fitness journey.  A big game changer for me, as well as my clients, has been the role of personal development to accompany the physical transformation that is happening.

Here are some books that I highly recommend if you need a little motivational boost to stay committed to your health and fitness goals:

  • Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy – This is the perfect book for those who struggle with time management and use the excuse “I don’t have time to workout”.
  • The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy – This is the perfect book for those who are a bit impatient and are getting frustrated that the results aren’t coming quick enough.
  • PUSH by Chalene Johnson – This is the perfect book for those who are struggling with setting goals and creating a plan to reach those goals.

These books have been game changers for me and my clients and if you are finding that you are not pushing hard or digging deep, give one of these books a try.  I’d love to know what other books you are reading – fitness or non-fitness related!

How I Changed My Life

Many people ask me how I got into health and fitness and to be honest, I wasn’t given a choice. My life was on a downward spiral in every aspect and it was through changing my fitness and eating habits that my entire life changed. I never thought I would have found my passion through my transformation, but I am so happy I did and now I can pay it forward to help others in the same way.

To be honest, if you want to change your life, it all starts with a DECISION! That moment when you decide that enough is enough and that you want to change for good.  Yes, it will be difficult, it will be an adjustment, it will require sacrifices, and it may not be pretty all the time.  Oh, and YOU WILL FAIL and it will be hard to accept that, but the key is to get back up every single time you get knocked down and go for it ONE MORE TIME.

If you want to change your body, you have to love, honor, and respect your body.

Is your mindset keeping you from reaching your goals?

Did you know that one of the major indicators of whether you will succeed in your health and fitness goals or not, is your mindset? When I work with people and they don’t believe that they can lose weight…they don’t. Why? It’s because the have already placed in their mind they can’t, so they won’t. They have already set themselves up for failure before even starting the race. Where the mind goes, the body will follow, so your mindset is the key to unlocking your success.

Forget about what happened in the past, today is a new day! What will you accomplish today? What will you accomplish by the end of the year? What will you accomplish by the end of 2015? Adjust your mindset and your self talk to be focused on your ability to be successful and you will be. Period.

If you are struggling with reaching your goals, maybe you need a new system. I have created a self paced course dedicated to teach you how to set goals that will inspire you and motivate you to reach them no matter what.

Our Thoughts Are Powerful

On this journey, we will get hit with some ups and downs. When you hit those low moments it can be so easy to let negative thinking like “I can’t do this” or “I will never lose weight”. What happens when we give in to those thoughts is that you begin to shift your focus on everything negative and then the negativity wins.

Your thoughts are powerful, but you have the power over them. You can choose, even the midst of a failure, to keep the thoughts positive and move forward to your victory. I know it can be tough, but just keep pushing through it!

Push Yourself Daily

When I first began on my journey I was weak – mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. But when I made the decision to change, each day I made it a priority to challenge and push myself daily. Now, I’m stronger in every way, but that doesn’t mean that I stop pushing and challenging myself! Let’s keep pushing!

Can’t Stay Committed? Start with your “WHY?”

Happy New Year! As we start off a new year (that I must say I am super excited about), many people have taken the time to write down their goals for year or commit (or recommit) themselves to certain things in their life.  Health and fitness goals/resolutions are among the top areas that people want to focus on in the new year. Which is totally understandable, coming off of a season packed with holiday snacks, meals,  and treats and cold weather that makes you want to do anything but exercise.  But nonetheless, it is a new year and I commend anyone who decides to star the year off with improved health and fitness.

However, most people don’t realize their goals or resolutions to be healthier, lose weight, drink more water, eat more veggies, or anything else, because we soon lose motivation and the desire to pursue those things. Why? Because, let’s be honest, they come with a pretty big sacrifice – cutting out your daily Starbucks, waking up an hour earlier to workout, skipping your favorite meals, and so on.  The reality is that your desire to do these things dwindle because you have not truly committed to your motivation and your true reason WHY!   The other day I had a good friend of mine contact me saying that he wanted to join one of my upcoming challenges because he got a health wake up call that really scared him.  His reason for joining my challenge to lose weight and get healthy, just became real to him. He realized that his life would be in jeopardy if he didn’t make some changes.  His WHY was now solid, personal and urgent.

I encourage you to take some time and really think about WHY you want to lose weight. Is it just because it is something that you always say? Really think your reasons why you want to get healthy.  Here are some of the WHYs that I heard from a few of my new fitness challengers:

  • I want to be able to look at myself in the mirror and love the person looking back at me.
  • I’m tired of feeling undesirable to my husband.  I want to have more passion back in our marriage and even when he tells me I’m beautiful I don’t believe him, because of the way I look.
  • I want to be able to run around the yard with my grandkids. They always want to play with me, but because of my weight I feel like my heart is going to burst after about 3 minutes of playing with them.
  • I don’t want to have the same fate as my father, aunt, and grandmother – all three died of poor health.
  • I just want to feel happy, confident and sexy again! My divorce really threw me for a loop and it’s been a long time since I did something that made me feel good about myself. I’m ready!

If you are finding it hard to stay connected, think about your WHY and make that be your motivating factor to push through. If you need help with staying accountable, I am here to help you in any way that I can.  So don’t hesitate to reach out to me!

You will be successful, when you are consistent

12370_10105211825207394_308432152_nMany people start off each month with big goals and things that they want to achieve.  They get all pumped up and have the right mindset to be successful.  However, the one thing that trips them up and keeps them from reaching that success is that they are not consistently pursuing that goal on a daily basis.  If you want to reach your goals, it will require you to make your goals a priority and do everything in your power to hold yourself accountable to reaching that goal.  This will in turn, ensure that you are consistent in your pursuit.

Write down the goals that you want to achieve this month. Next, write down all of the activities that you will need to do on a daily and weekly basis to make it happen.  For example, if you say that you want to lose 5 pounds this month, some things that you should do on a daily basis are:

  • Drink 64 Ounces of Water
  • Eliminate Junk Food and processed foods
  • Eat a healthy breakfast, instead of skipping breakfast or eating a donut
  • Workout for 30 minutes 5 days a week

The fact is that if you do these things consistently, every single day, you would have results. Actually, you would have amazing results.  Why? Because you are focusing on doing the vital things, consistently, that will lead you to reaching your goals. The great thing about it, is that eventually, these things will become like second nature to you and you will begin to do them naturally, without even thinking about it.

Whatever goals you have for yourself, don’t just say them or write them down.  Also, take some time to write out the behaviors, tasks, and activities that you need to do on a daily and weekly basis to reach your goals.  Your success will be directly dependent on how consistent you will be.

Does Your Body Support Your Goals?

A few months ago, I was in Costa Rica with a group of my friends and mentors and we did some amazing things! As I was there, I was reflecting on all of the things that I want to do in my life and I realized that the only way I would be able to do them is if my body was healthy and strong. Check it out this video where I explain more about it. Enjoy!

P.S. Comment below with your goals! I’d love to hear them! 🙂
